Flatten The Mountain Chests: How to Find and Open Them
Buried chests are found inside the mountain while layers are being mined, not at a guaranteed lobby coordinate. Clear each layer far enough to expose its inner blocks, scan the new faces before dropping lower, and use the interaction prompt shown by your device. Dated PC material showed an F prompt, and two public records showed a chest result of 50 Gems. The September 3 update means that reward should not be treated as a guaranteed current constant.

What is officially confirmed
The official Roblox description names buried chests as part of Flatten The Mountain's core loop. It does not publish:
- fixed coordinates;
- a chest count per run;
- spawn odds;
- a respawn timer;
- a complete reward table;
- solo versus shared ownership rules.
Any map or probability table needs more evidence than the current official page provides.
How to find buried chests without a fixed map
1. Clear one horizontal layer cleanly
Work across the current surface instead of cutting a narrow tunnel straight down. A clean layer exposes more interior faces and makes it easier to notice a chest before the group moves to the next level.
2. Scan the newly exposed inner blocks
After a layer-cleared message or a large section breaks, turn the camera across the fresh wall and floor. The useful search area is the mountain's internal volume, not the beach, spawn furniture, or sky.
3. Break blocks around an obstructed object
If a container shape or interaction prompt appears, clear enough space to approach it. Do not assume every colored ore cluster hides a chest; ore and chests are separate reward sources.
4. Use the current interaction prompt
A September 2 PC screenshot showed the F key prompt on a buried chest. On mobile or another control layout, use the on-screen interaction control displayed by the current client. This site does not guess the mobile label.
5. Confirm the reward from the balance change
Watch the Gem balance before and after opening. A video reference already recorded on this site and a separate illustrated guide both showed +50 Gems. That makes 50 Gems a useful dated observation, but it still does not prove that every chest, every server, or the post-September 3 build uses the same reward.
What are chest Gems used for?
Dated public material shows Gems being spent in the lobby Pickaxe Store. Cash and Gems have different roles:

The safest chest route
Use this repeatable route during a normal clear:
- Finish most of the current top surface.
- Sweep the perimeter and center for exposed container shapes.
- Check fresh inner faces before moving down.
- Open a visible chest immediately so it is not buried by camera movement or team progress.
- Return to normal mining; do not abandon an entire run searching for a coordinate that has not been verified.
This route improves coverage without pretending that chests use a fixed map.
What not to trust yet
“Every chest is at the same layer”
Not confirmed. Public material establishes that chests can be buried inside layers, not a permanent layer number.
“Chest Luck changes the spawn rate”
No current official or dated menu evidence reviewed here established a Chest Luck stat.
“Chests respawn every few minutes”
No reliable respawn timer was found.
“The first player to see it owns it”
Solo, co-op, and shared reward behavior remain unconfirmed.
Chest troubleshooting
I cleared the outside and found nothing
A buried chest can be missed when only the visible outer skin is removed. Clear the layer's internal blocks and scan newly exposed faces before moving down.
I can see a chest but cannot open it
Move close enough for the interaction prompt, clear blocking voxels, and use the control shown by your current device. The historical F prompt is PC-specific evidence.
I opened a chest but did not receive exactly 50 Gems
The 50-Gem result is dated September 1–2 evidence, not a guaranteed post-update reward. Record the current balance change and treat the live result as newer than this snapshot.
Do chests count as Cash farming?
No. Keep chest Gems separate from Cash earned by ordinary mining so your farming comparison remains meaningful.
